British Foreign Minister David Cameron called Thursday for "creative" ways of tapping frozen Russian assets to aid Ukraine, at a G7 foreign ministers' meeting on Italy's island of Capri.
"There are frozen Russian assets in the UK and Europe and elsewhere and we should be finding ways of using those assets to help Ukraine in its defence," Cameron told reporters.
It was "important we try and get agreement" on how, he said ahead of a working session on Ukraine.
"I'm in no doubt we will find a way, but we're going to have to be creative, we'll have to be flexible," he added.
The comments come on the back of mounting calls in Washington and Europe to set up a fund for Ukraine using billions of dollars in Russian bank accounts, investments and other assets frozen by the West following Moscow's invasion of its neighbour in 2022.
The EU froze some 200 billion euros of Russian central bank assets held in the bloc as part of sanctions on Moscow.
Most of those funds are held by the international deposit organisation Euroclear, based in Belgium.
